TechXploration Youth Appathon in Anacostia (Washington, DC)
Register. Volunteer. Contribute. Attend. Share.

DiversiTech and Cause-Driven, with the support of ARCH Development, Lumen8 and Lenovo, are bringing tech to Anacostia youth this summer with TechXploration Youth Appathon. TechXploration will connect high school students with tech innovators and entrepreneurs over the course of two days: Saturday, July 14th – students explore mobile app concepts and run through the process of creating products using Appcelerator® under the direction of Clearly Innovative, a TechXploration partner; and Sunday, July 15th – students participate in Demo Day to present their products and share lessons learned with community members, family and friends. Demo Day will also feature introductions to existing tech programs, like Uplift DC, for students to continue growing their interest in technology!

To make this program a success, your assistance is needed. Here are 5 Ways to Lend a Hand for TechXploration…

  • REGISTER a youth participant before July 7th: No cost. Just fill-out the online form.
  • VOLUNTEER and join in on the fun to help out either day. All hands are welcomed!
  • CONTRIBUTE any amount to help defer some of the costs associated with the program – $5, $10, $15, $20, you name it. Literally, you name it and we will definitely recognize your awesome support and efforts. Sponsorship levels are also available.
  • ATTEND and support participants on Sunday, July 15th for TechXploration Demo Day at Honfleur Gallery in Anacostia, DC.
  • SHARE THIS EMAIL and other provided links with your networks. We appreciate your assistance in continuing to spread the word and excitement!

Special thanks to our Partners: Clearly Innovative, Color of Tech and 100 Black Men

DC:Charity:West Africa: Support Hope Through Health

Please support this organization, if you can. I know that we are all being stretched this in our current economic times, but I think we can all find a few dollars in our daily/weekly/monthly spending to make a difference for this important organization.

Dear HTH Supporter,

In early April, Hope Through Health set out to raise $50,000 to fill a budget shortfall by June 30th, 2012. We have raised over $39,000 to date through pledges and contributions, representing 78% of our ambitious target! However, there is more work to be done. We need to raise an additional $11,000 before June 30th, 2012 to reach our goal.

Help us cross the finish line by donating today

Donate_Now_Blue.gif

Reaching this goal will enable Hope Through Health to continue providing life-saving treatment and comprehensive care to over 2,600 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Togo. Your gift of:

· $20 per month will provide a person living with HIV adequate nutritional, medical and psychological support
· $25 will ensure that a child orphaned by HIV can attend school
· $200 will increase the likelihood that a mother living with HIV gives birth to a healthy child

Over the past 6 years, our board, staff and supporters like you have shown extraordinary commitment to our friends in Togo. Let’s keep up the tremendous momentum of this campaign! If you haven’t already, I encourage you to JOIN US today.

Please click here to learn more about our programs and to donate before June 30th, 2012!

If you have already donated we thank you for your support and encourage you to forward this email to your friends and family so they can learn about the life-saving work of Hope Through Health in Togo.

On behalf of our colleagues in Togo, thank you for your generous support.

In solidarity,

Melanie Spence
HTH Board President

Episode 4: BALANCE

Balance, airing May 4, features Rackstraw Downes, Robert Mangold and Sarah Sze. Through sculpture, paintings, and installations, the artists in this hour grapple with equilibrium and disequilibrium as they create highly structured works that challenge conventional notions of perception and representation.

Having painted in small-town Maine and downtown Manhattan, British-born Downes travels through rural Texas in search of new landscapes to inspire his panoramic paintings which explore the quandaries of representing the three dimensional world in two dimensions.

Mangold, from his country studio in upstate New York, translates the most basic of formal elements-shape, line, and color-into paintings, prints, and drawings whose simplicity of form expresses complex ideas. On a much larger scale, Mangold creates a permanent installation of tall, colored glass panels at the federal courthouse in Buffalo, NY.

Sze builds her installations and intricate sculptures from the minutiae of everyday life, imbuing mundane materials, marks, and processes with surprising significance. In New York City’s High Line park, she strikes a balance between form and function as she creates a sculpture as post-modern bird habitat as well as a study of architectural perspective and space.

Email julieh to reserve your seats for the screening and following discussion.

ABOUT ART21

Over the last decade, Art21 has established itself as the preeminent chronicler of contemporary art and artists through its Peabody Award-winning biennial television series Art in the Twenty-First Century. The organization has used the power of digital media to expose millions of people of all ages to contemporary art and artists and has created a new paradigm for teaching and learning about the creative process.

In addition to its PBS series and year-round series-based education and public programs efforts, Art21 has expanded its film production and educational efforts in recent years. Several new initiatives have been launched in the past year including New York Close Up, a new documentary series on Art and Life in New York City, and the premiere of Art21’s first feature film, William Kentridge: Anything Is Possible. Art21 also offers Art21 Educators, an ongoing professional development program for teachers now entering its fourth year.

it’s a shame that beauty is temporal.

it is here and then gone. forever.

capture this very moment.

embrace it. enjoy it.

even the birds, who are so free, will die.
